Located in northern New Castle County, Alapocas Run State Park has 5.1 miles of trails to explore. Weave throughout the Alapocas Woods while discovering the rich history of Wilmington, Delaware. We invite you to explore these great trails on your next visit to this park.

Alapocas Woods Trail

As the central junction for several different trails, Alapocas Woods is the best trail for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in nature. This 0.7-mile trail has something for everyone, from picturesque overlooks of the rock walls to babbling brooks.

Upper Reach Trail

Trek further into the forest and explore the upper reaches of Alapocas Run State Park. The Upper Reach Trail is a 0.2-mile offshoot of Alapocas Woods trail that features some of the most beautiful overlooks in our woods and the chance to glimpse native wildlife.

Pawpaw Loop

The Pawpaw Loop brings you up close and personal with the largest native North American fruit, the Pawpaw! Though only 0.3 miles in length, the Pawpaw loop is a brief but rewarding experience.

Bancroft Trail

This hidden gem of Alapocas Run State Park, the Bancroft Trail, runs alongside the Brandywine Creek for 0.2 miles. Delve into the remnants of our industrial past as you pass underneath the restored train platform and then continue on a steep rocky slope that connects back to the Alapocas Woods Trail.

Northern Delaware Greenway Trail

Journey through woodlands and past cliffs of blue rock to discover traces of our industrial past. The Northern Delaware Greenway Trail runs through Alapocas Run State Park as part of the larger East Coast Greenway Trail. It connects to Rockwood Park and Bellevue State Park in the north, as well as Wilmington State Parks in the south.

A portion of the trail runs along Brandywine Creek. Overlooks created from industrial structures will give you opportunities to view the foundations of the historic Bancroft textile mill high above the rushing waters. Another nearby industrial remnant is a Blue Rock quarry which is a great spot to rock climb.  As you make your way up the river valley and walk through mature woods, you may even spot the umbrella-like leaves of the Pawpaw Tree.

If you need a rest or bathroom break while out on the Northern Greenway Trail,  stop by the Blue Ball Barn and take time to explore the Delaware Folk Collection or the interpretative exhibits that tell the story of the park.
