The InstaMeet at Fort Delaware State Park was the largest one in Delaware State Parks InstaMeet history, with over 100 attendees including park staff!
What is an InstaMeet? These free events allow our state parks social media following to come together, connect with each other, and experience the parks in a unique way.
For this InstaMeet, we took a special evening trip to Fort Delaware State Park to experience the Civil War fort after regular operating hours.
We started by taking a ferry to from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island, where the fort is located.

Along the way, we saw wildlife and had the chance to meet new people.

Once we reached the island, we broke up into groups for guided tours of the Fort. The interpreters at Fort Delaware led groups through areas of the Fort, including the officer’s quarters, barracks, and blacksmith shop. Fort Delaware is a Civil War prison that held close to 33,000 Confederate soldiers during the war. Today, you can tour the fort and the barracks to see what life was like in during 1864.
