April showers bring May flowers. It’s May and the flowers are starting to spring up all around! This month for Terrific Toddlers we are talking about Wildflowers.
Wildflowers grow in all sorts of places. No one planted them on purpose but they pop up anyway. You might find some in your yard, or garden, or even in a crack on the sidewalk! They come in all sorts of colors. And those colors help the pollinators like bees and butterflies find them.
Pollinators are small but very important friends in our yards, parks, and gardens. Their job is to bring pollen (a fluffy yellow powder that helps plants grow) from plant to plant. Bees are very good at this. Since they are already traveling from flower to flower to collect nectar to make honey. The pollen sticks to their fuzzy bodies and legs and travels with them as they go.
Pretend you are a pollinator and see how many colorful wildflowers you can find near where you live!
