Visit the Point Overlook

See where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, and experience the dynamic natural beauty of dunes and water. The Point is a great place for year-round wildlife viewing, and you may see birds, dolphins, seals, and more. You’ll also see great views of both the East End Breakwater and the Harbor of Refuge lighthouses. From October 1 through March 1, visitors can hike around the Point on the bay and ocean beach.

Tour the Fort Miles Historical Area

Cape Henlopen was once a WWII site of coastal defense. Visit Fort Miles to experience maritime history, witness how the site protected the mouth of the Delaware Bay, and understand the scope of Fort Miles and its connection to the park today. Take a tour of Battery 519, and climb to the top of the Observation Tower to discover the roles the towers played in the operation of Fort Miles.

Borrow-a-Bike and Loop the Park

Did you know you can borrow a bike for free thanks to the Friends of Cape Henlopen? Bike the Loop trail around the park to experience diverse ecosystems including the maritime forests, dunes, and beach. You’ll also witness the rich history of the park.

Visit the Nature Center and Touch Tank

Stop by the Seaside Nature Center to get up close with native marine organisms in the touch tank. You’ll also learn about the parks’ habitats and the creatures that live here. To gain a greater understanding of the park, sign up for a guided program such as seining the bay, dolphin watch, or ghost crab hikes!

Walk the Fishing Pier

The pier was originally built to support mine operations during WWII. Today, the Fishing pier offers 24-hour access to fish in the Delaware Bay. Cast your line from the pier, or take a walk to see the naturel beauty of the Delaware Bay.

Superintendent’s Pick: Gordons Pond Trail

This beautiful 3.2-mile accessible trail offers stunning views of the park’s dynamic coastal habitats, including dunes, forests, and wetlands. Hike or bike across the elevated boardwalk, and look for wildlife along the trail.
