Brandywine Creek Nature Center

No matter what the weather is like outside, visitors at Brandywine Creek Nature Center can come to sit back in a rocking chair in front of a great picture window and just relax. Bring your lunch, a cup of tea or maybe even your favorite book. If you are looking for your Zen moment, this is the place. Take in great views of nature and the many birds that call Brandywine Creek State Park home. If you just love birds, the Brandywine Creek Nature Center has everything a birdwatcher could want. Bird feeders are set up in front of the observatory’s window. The feeders attract all types of birds, including the Arcadian Flycatcher, Tree Swallows, the White Breasted Nuthatch, the Carolina Chickadee, and the Red-Bellied Woodpecker. Need to decompress? This is the place to go in Northern Delaware. The park is located off Route 202, just six miles from downtown Wilmington and less than an hour from Philadelphia. Killens Pond Nature Center

After jogging or hiking the trails, stop and take a break on the deck overlooking the pond at Killens Pond Nature Center. Bring a cup of coffee, your earbuds and just take in the natural beauty that surrounds this modern, LEED-certified center nestled in the woods. There is not a bad view to be had in this glass and steel building that is reminiscent of an Alexander Calder sculpture: both abstract and kinetic at the same time. Marvel at the water that is collected from the roof of the building to be reused for washing boats and other tasks. If you like to meditate, or just appreciate nature, Killens Pond Nature Center is the perfect place to relax and find your inner peace. If you are bringing your children or grandchildren they will enjoy learning about the different wildlife who call Killens Pond home. Bald Cypress Nature Center

After kayaking or walking the trails at Trap Pond, stroll inside the Bald cypress Nature Center and discover the history behind Delaware’s first state park. You will learn that Trap Pond is actually a manmade pond that was built in the 1700s to power a saw mill. The center’s exhibits both entertain and educate and give a nice respite to playing outdoors. Marvel at the ecosystem that makes up this southwestern section of the Delmarva Peninsula through the center’s informative exhibits. The center’s multi-purpose room is the perfect spot for bridal showers, baby showers, and other gatherings. The center’s large windows offer up spectacular views of the pond, its towering trees, and its wildlife. It is the perfect spot to relax and get lost in the natural beauty of Trap Pond State Park.
