1. Seals at the Beach
Cape Henlopen State Park
Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m.
Stranded or just hanging out? Find out which species you may see and what these marine mammals are doing on our beaches in the winter. Dress to go outside. For ages 7 and up with an adult. Limit 20. Pre-registration required by calling (302) 645-6852. $2 per person.
2. Mansion to Mansion Hike
Bellevue State Park
Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m.
Join us as winter begins to melt away by hiking on the 2 ½-mile Greenway Trail from our own Bellevue Hall to the nearby Rockwood Mansion. Bring snacks if you like. Dogs are allowed, and so are kids! Don’t forget to bundle up, as it could be a cold day! Meet at the front of Bellevue Hall. Must pre-register by 4 p.m. on February 23. Free
3. Bluebird Trail Spring Hike
Brandywine Creek State Park
Saturday, February 24 at 11a.m.
Learn about Brandywine Creek State Park’s bluebird population and nesting research conducted at the park! Join us as we walk the Bluebird Trail and help us inspect and clean out our nest for the upcoming spring. Enjoy a lovely walk through the meadows, learn about birds, help prep for spring nesting season! If you are interested in helping us monitor in the summer, you can sign up to volunteer after the program! Pre-registration is encouraged. Free!
4. The Evolution of Black Recorded Music: The Age of Self-Expression
First State Heritage Park
Saturday, February 24 at 1 p.m.
Johnson Victrola Museum
The program covers the golden age of hip hop with groups like Run DMC, Public
Enemy, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and the emergence of gangsta rap with NWA and its members. This four-part series spans from the earliest years of the record industry to modern times.
5. Animal Enrichment Workshop
Brandywine Zoo
Sunday, February 25 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Craft-loving individuals will enjoy this hands-on workshop making enrichment for our Zoo animals. Learn all about the different kinds of enrichment we use to engage our animals’ minds at Brandywine Zoo, help us craft and create new items, and see some of your hard work given out around the Zoo! You’ll also be able to make some awesome enrichment to bring back to your pets at home!
Fee: $12/non-members, $10 DZS members
